Is Pets Corner in Gourock Park to close?

Locals are concerned the Pets Corner in Gourock Park may face closure.

Inverclyde Council is currently reviewing its spending and will have to make cuts to certain services.

It is yet to decide which services to cut, but some people are concerned that it may decide to close down Pets Corner.

The Pets Corner contains animals such as goats and rabbits for children to meet.

Concerned parents have created a facebook page called Save Pets Corner in the hope Council bosses will change their mind.

The page already has more than 500 fans- suggesting a high level of support in the community.

Their facebook page says: “Please don't let them take pets corner away from us and our children!”

S1 contacted the Council and they said they hadn’t made any decisions yet.

A Council spokesman said: "Proposals identifying savings of nearly £11 million are currently being considered by elected members to close a £6 million funding gap in the 2011/2013 budget. No decisions have yet been taken about where these savings will be made."

You only need to have a look at the Facebook group to see how much this facility means to the people in our area. While we appreciate that the council have to make budget cuts somewhere, we urge them not to take away our much loved Pets Corner.

People have posted on our facebook page how they were brought to the park as children, then they've taken their own children and childrens children too...there are many stories appearing daily of special memories the park holds for them, and people are devastated thinking that one day soon it might be taken away from us.

Children from nurseries are brought to learn, also there are children who can't have a pet for whatever reason, they all learn here too...its happy, healthy and educational!

From the point of view of the animals, we worry the trauma might be too much for some of them if they had to be re-homed, Mary the donkey for example had such a bad start in life, she has been happy in the park now for 16years. Many of the other animals have spent their whole lives in the park and that is all they know, it would traumatise them to be separated from their brothers and sisters and have their whole routines changed.

Please, I urge all to sign our petition either here http://www.facebook.com/pages/Save-Pets-Corner-at-Gourock-Park/175634025789020?v=app_2373072738#!/topic.php?uid=175634025789020&topic=215   or look out for one of the paper petitions which are in various shops etc and let us keep our bunny park....as a community I'm sure if we all pull together our voices will be heard.

Thank you all in advance.

i worked part time and was recently paid off from pets corner,I never really had an interest in animals ,i have a dog which i love and take great care of but the 2 years i worked in the pets corner made me look at animals completely different i fell totally in love with the parrots, spent most of my free time trying to get them too talk, i managed to get diego to say mon the hoops and that was it for me .

I now have my own indian ringneck parrot called pennie i could go on about her but reason ive got her is because of a whole new love for animals brought on by working  at the bunny park.I used to bring out one or two wee baby bunnies to let the kids see them an they would love it.

in a world of xboxes and wii,s it is stil lamazing to c that kids still love to come to the bunny park and c the animals.i had some good fun trying to get the ducks in an the kids shouting theres one over here, some times the rooster larry would chase me

Why!!??? what else do the kIds have!! you cant take this away from them! this is more than just "a park"!

We came to visit from AUSTRALIA and took our little girl there! she loved it!! she was able to spend time with her granny, granda, auntie and cousin there and get to know them...... this is a family place and there is nothing more important!!

this would be an absolute tragic loss!!

how about all you high paid government people take a £10 decrease in your wage and donate to this fantastic area! OH NO! like that'll ever happen!!

think about the kids/parents that arent able to go to all these places that cost lots of money..........!

would you deprive your children of a safe/happy childhood experience!?

SAVE THIS PARK!!

YOUR KIDS NEED IT!
