Multi-million Gourock development to be expanded
A £4.7 million redevelopment of the Gourock Pier and Railhead is to be expanded following consultation with local businesses.
The Gourock Central Development is a key priority for the council in partnership with regeneration company Riverside Inverclyde and includes a new one-way system in Kempock Street to alleviate traffic congestion.
A pre planning consultation exercise has been carried out while developing the detailed design, specifically with Gourock Community Council and the Shore Street and Kempock Street Traders’ Groups.
Councillor Michael McCormick, convener, said: "The majority of people who responded to the consultation are in favour of the proposed one-way system but a number of other concerns have been raised and addressed by the design team.
"These include more parking and increased street lighting for Shore Street and the retention of trees. This project will drastically enhance the centre of Gourock for local people, businesses, shoppers and visitors.”
Vice convener, Councillor Jim Clocherty, said: "The development of the pier and railhead represents the biggest investment in Gourock for many years. I am delighted the Council and Riverside Inverclyde have been able to address the concerns and desires of local people and traders in moving this project forward.”
The additional works will be carried out within the existing £4.7 million budget. A planning application for the revised development framework will be now be submitted for planning consent.
